Universities x
philanthropy

We live in unprecedented times — with climate volatility, inequality, forced displacement, technological disruption, and democratic backsliding. More than ever, we need alliances across sectors and solutions that are interdisciplinary, inclusive, and locally resonant. We need a new kind of partnership: one that combines the depth and systems thinking of academia, the catalytic energy of philanthropy, and the grounded wisdom of communities.

Key questions

  • As the world nears the 2030 deadline for SDGs, what have we learnt? What next?
  • What is the role of universities and philanthropies and how, by working together, can they create transformative impact?
  • How can we reimagine how knowledge and resources are mobilised in service of just, plural, and sustainable futures?

Our work in uni x philanthropy

The Better World Agenda

What does effective partnerships between universities and philanthropy look like? What kind of opportunities could there could be if philanthropy chose to partner with universities, rather than big consulting firms?

This collaborative initiative between University of Toronto, Antara Advisory and Edelgive with SIX aims to bring together leaders from philanthropy and university sector, who can transform their institutions. We want to explore how they can work together to create transformative impact.

We are building a collaboration between organisations with unique strengths, from both the Global North and South.

The partners met in London on 2-3 October, 2025 to align vision and objectives for our collaboration.
