Partner organisations

Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and TESE

About the event

In 2009 SIX partnered with TESE, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Young Foundation to host its second annual SIX summer school in Lisbon from 15-17 July. The 2009 annual gathering focused on ‘Recovery through social innovation’. Set against the backdrop of the global financial crisis, participants explored how social innovation might contribute to recovery, sharing ideas and experiences on everything from job creation to urban agriculture, fast colleges to fiscal stimulus packages.

Key themes

  • Innovation in a crisis – where are we now?
  • Turning crisis into opportunity
  • Using crisis to promote innovation

Key discussion questions

How can we turn crisis into opportunity? With the recent global recession creating fertile ground for grassroots action and creative experimentation, and an emerging new dynamic between central and local government, the third sector and business, how can social innovation provide a new framework for linking the global dynamics of recession to action on the ground?
