The Global Innovation Academy (GIA) is a new initiative powered by SIX, with the objective of growing the next generation leaders in the field of social innovation. It is a series of learning programmes which aims to develop mindset, skills and capacity needed to understand and tackle social and environmental challenges of today.
We are seeing the power of young people and activism all around the world. Last year, Greta Thunberg started Fridays for Future, inspiring students in countries all across the world to come together to protest for climate action weekly. In Hong Kong, young people took to the streets to oppose a now-suspended extradition bill and called for greater democracy as the violence between the protesters and police escalated. Young people are disrupting the status quo and are challenging the existing system to find new pathways for a collective future.
There is a combination of energy and a sense of restlessness in these movements. The question we are asking is, what next? How do you turn these protests into action? How can these young generations prepare for the future and grow into leaders that have the power to decide and agency to act?
SIX is launching the Global Innovation Academy (GIA) this year which will bring together young people around the world to learn about social innovation in different contexts and practical tools to understand and tackle social and environmental challenges of today.
