SIX has been involved in building an ecosystem for social innovation in Europe for many years.
In 2010, we produced a Study on Social Innovation, which influenced Agnes Hubert’s (former adviser in the Bureau of European Policy Advisers) paper Empowering People, Driving Change: Social Innovation in the European Union, and in turn, the inclusion of social innovation in the Innovation Union.
SIX was responsible for the first social innovation pilot initiative of the EC, the Social Innovation Europe platform, and in collaboration with several partners we have been responsible for managing it since. SIE is now the largest community for social innovation in Europe and its website is one of the most visited of EC projects - a true one stop shop for social innovation in Europe.
Other examples of our European work range from the European Commission funded TRANSITION project (tasked with scaling up 300 promising social innovations across Europe, and developing a common methodology based on this experience) to being a partner in the ENGAGED consortium, also funded by the European Commission (building methodologies and a learning community for ICT in healthy and active ageing). We also designed and coordinated SI Live – the first event in Europe bringing together European funded projects focussing on research and incubation.
