The Age of No Retirement? is a series of debates, explorations and exhibitions that Trading Times is hosting over 6 days at The OXO Tower Southbank in October. Coinciding with the UN International Older Persons Day, the event will involve representatives from every sector of society to discover the hidden value inherent within a society in which people are living longer, healthier and more productively than ever before.

They have just launched their Kickstarter campaign, you can have a look at it here.

What we're doing hasn't been done before

For one week, under one roofin Central London we aregoing to bring together ina creative forum: the young, the old, the employers, the employed, the policy makers, the artists, the innovators, the inspired, the rational.

We will address one of the most pressing issues of our time: how to seize the opportunities inherent in a society in which people are living much longer.

The general public willfeed in their thoughts, responses and ideasdirectly over the week and our creative forum will be documented liveon TV, Twitter,Facebook, throughGoogle, Radio, Tabloids,in the Broadsheets, and in communities andin schools across thecountry.

We must break newground. We will re-imaginenew futures and generate new insights. We will do this collaboratively.

But without your help this will not happen

Your donations are vitally important. Not only will you make 'The Age of No Retirement?' possible and help change the shape of modern society, but you will also help create our Kickstarter success whichwill enable us to attract more people, more employers and more media and deliver a much greater impact.

'The Age of No Retirement?' event will require £35,000 to cover the essential ingredients for a resonant event that has a real and lasting impact.

'The Age of No Retirement?' will achieve 3 main objectives:

  • 1) By attracting extensive media coverage and generating high volumes of social media discourse, we will raise awareness of the demographic and socio-economic trends and issues that will shape society of tomorrow, and in so doing we will...
  • 2)...begin to meaningfully overcome the many misperceptions by employers, politicians and leaders about the valuable role people continue to play throughout their lives.
  • 3) Through the process of robust debate across all aspects of a population that is living longer, we will discover new ideas and gain widespread support for new initiatives that will make positive tangible improvements to society and communities across the UK.

Over the course of the first 2 days, more than one hundred VIP debaters in groups of six will grapple with 7 fundamental themes:

  • Work & employment
  • Ageism & prejudice
  • Health & well-being
  • Technology & communication
  • The plus-50 consumer
  • Self, family & society
  • Knowledge & education.

Each debate will have its own facilitator and its own artist who together will ensure a high level of productivity and the capture of insights and ideas in visually captivating ways.

On day 3 we will be hard at work behind closed doors, converting all the insights, outputs, discoveries and ideas into visual images.

But then we will reopen with a 3-day interactive public exhibition that will enable everyone to contribute to the discussions and build consensus around key ideas and initiatives that need to be taken forward and given louder voice.

Stretch goals

Every £10,000 raised over the £35,000 target will enable us to host another 'The Age of No Retirement?' event in another major UK city - helping us continue and build the momentum for awareness and positive change generated at the London event.

We want to run 4 similar events across the UK in the 12 months following 'The Age of No Retirement?' event in London - 2 in the North, 1 in the Midlands and 1 in the West.
