Design for Social Innovation: An Interview With Ezio Manzini

Author: Kine Nordstokka
Published Date: 22 August 2011 interviews Ezio Manzini, one of the leading experts on sustainable design and founder of DESIS (Design for Social Innovation towards Sustainability).

Ezio shares his 30-year expertise on the issues of sustainability, cooperation and co-creation, attitudes toward innovation, grassroots-iniciated social innovation and the role of design and designer in the innovation process.

According to Ezio, social innovation challenges the traditional way of doing things and introduces new sustainable behaviour. In these circumstances people who invent, enhance and manage innovation are united into creative communities and it is therefore a designer's job to help such communities exist and spread their ideas, as well as to make a move from marginality to mainstream.

Ezio continues to talk about measuring the quality of social innovation, as well as about his personal projects and inspirations.
