SIX Summer School 2016 in Colombia – Innovation in Polarised Societies

The theme and context

Across the world, there is a growing sense that our societies are becoming more divisive. Whether it’s the widening gap between the rich and the poor, or the critical narrative around the most vulnerable in our society, our communities seem less cohesive. At SIX, we don’t believe that this widening gulf is inevitable. But arresting it needs innovation in how we work and live together. It also needs new forms of collaboration across established sectors and cultures.

Why Colombia?

We worked with our partners Somos Más in Colombia to explore the potential of social innovation in transforming divided. The event took place just the day after the Colombian population had voted to reject a historic peace agreement between FARC militants and the government. This provided an emotional, fascinating and inspiring context to the entire summer school.

The theme of social innovation in post-conflict societies is one that we have been exploring at SIX, and one we will work on again in the future. If you are interested in working with us in this field, then don’t hesitate to get in contact.
